SAAA Title VI Policy

Southern Area Agency on Aging (SAAA) hereby gives public notice that it is SAAA’s policy to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Circular 4702.1.A, and related statutes and regulations in all programs and activities. Title VI requires that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, sex or national origin be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or otherwise subjected to discrimination under any FTA program or other activity for which SAAA receives Federal financial assistance.

Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act

In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Southern Area Agency on Aging (SAAA) will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs or activities.

Employment: SAAA does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.

Effective Communication: SAAA will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in DRPT’s programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreter, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who speech, hearing or vision impairments.

Modifications to Policies and Procedures: SAAA will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, activities. Anyone who requires auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in SAAA programs, services, or activities, should contact the SAAA ADA Coordinator-Mobility Manager at 1-800-468-4571 or (276) 632-6442 as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. The ADA does not require SAAA to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of the programs or services, or impose any undue financial or administrative burden.

Complaints that a SAAA program, service, or activity is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the SAAA ADA Coordinator-Mobility Manager at 1-800-468-4571 or (276) 632-6442. SAAA will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy.
